The United States Women's Football League is pleased to announce that the Keystone Assault has officially signed on as a full member and will be playing in the USWFL beginning with the 2019 season. Based in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, the Assault return to the USWFL after a three-year absence.
“We are excited to have the Assault back in the USWFL. After many conversations with Mr. Green and Coach Mike, I’m glad they decided on the move. We plan on making it one they won’t regret!”
Since kicking off in 2009, the Assault have played in the Women's Football Alliance (2009-2012, 2016-2018), Independent Women's Football League (2013-2014) and here in the USWFL in 2015 (when it was known as the Women's Spring Football League). Said 2015 season was the most successful in the Assault's decade-spanning history, ending with them completing an undefeated 8-0 season and capturing the WSFL National Championship with a 9-7 win over the Tennessee Legacy in the title game.
"The Decision to go back to the “U” wasn’t an easy one and it was one that wasn’t taken lightly," Assault owner/GM Bill Green said. "Coach Mike Ochmanowicz and I discussed intensely and we also put it out in front of the returning players from last season to discuss the pros and cons of switching back to the USWFL. With that being said, we (Coach O) and myself felt at this time it was in the best interest of the team to make the move back, not to mention that we like what we are seeing in the USWFL in regards to League and Team relationships and we would like to be a part of the concept in which they are building towards."
Although the Assault remain grateful to the WFA for providing them with a league home for the past three years and wish them well in their future endeavors, they are happy to be part of the "U" and greatly look forward to renewing their old rivalries with the Washington Prodigy and West Virginia Wildfire, as well as new battles ahead with the likes of the DMV Lady Knights, Virginia Venom and Hampton Roads Lady Gators. In addition, Green, "Coach O" and the ENTIRE Assault team eagerly look forward to working with the USWFL on their league efforts on and off the field this season, ready to win another USWFL National Championship!
